Beer Trail 2024:
Opens Saturday 21st December, closes end of January 2025. Usual format – go to the start checkpoint (see below) where you’ll find a stake with the next grid reference. Carry on until you get to the beer & chocolate. There's a visitor book in the cache to sign and comment when you have found it.
SAFETY:
This event is not an official British Orienteering event, and therefore BOF insurance does not cover you.
Leave plenty of daylight and carry a decent torch. Courses go high into the fells so go equipped for a remote mountain journey.

“Meeting another human being in these fells is outside the realms of possibility. Die here unaccompanied and your disappearance from society is likely to remain an unsolved mystery” (A.Wainwright).
WE DON’T KNOW YOU’RE OUT THERE - YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY
Maps:
This year’s Beer Trail maps have been lovingly prepared by Pete Nelson.
The grid references will work on a OS/Harveys map, but some of the features are not on the map (they’re obviously there on the ground though!).
The full OS/Harveys map should be taken as well, for emergency routes off the fell.
Please download both the specially prepared maps below.

The START control is marked on the South map
Start control (Both courses): NY 0668 1045 (small pond)
Please leave the stash (look for a black bin bag stuffed with goodies) as you find it and take away litter. If the goodies are running low, let us know.
Note: please don’t give the game away by putting the whole of your route on Strava or similar. The location of the cache is a secret until you’ve put the effort in.
Thanks, Jamie
