March 2020:
WCOC 'Improvers' coached training session
Date and Time: Sunday 1st March 10.00 - 12.00 - new rearranged date
Location: Buttermere, National Trust Carpark NY173172 (same location as the recent night event)
Focus: Basic Skill and Techniques
This looks to be one of the only dates available to re-run this cancelled coaching. The session is focused on basic skills that we all can use to help our orienteering and, depending on how we progress, may include:
Orientation
Symbols and control descriptions
Compass / following a bearing
Attack points
Aiming off
Traffic Lights
Contours
Who for: Juniors and seniors - Knowing and being able to use these skills will help those relatively new to orienteering (not just using line features), Improvers and more the experienced, and would be expected to be known by any aspiring to gain entry to the NWJS.
What to bring - Water proofs, plenty of warm clothing (February/March weather could be anything), good footwear (for moving off paths), a compass, plus drink and a snack.
Please email me to let me know if you intend to come so I know numbers (hunters7@sky.com). Feel free to ask any questions.

The training suggested below is intended to support members of WCOC, especially the juniors, in following a progressive training programme in order to improve their speed and strength endurance for orienteering.
The next six weeks have been set out below. These may vary a little depending on attendance, location, weather or coaches whim! It is intended that an individual or the group could manage the session whithout the need for a coach to lead but we hope to have a coach present at least once a month to support these activities. These will be indicated on the programe below which will be updated on the WCOC website as the programme develops.
This is not intended to be definitive; discussion and feedback welcome. Please make any suggestions to ask any club coach for assistance.
