UPDATE 14 JAN: ** PARKING UPDATE **
We’ve only managed to secure 10 parking places at the school.
Unless the extra distance to get to registration will be challenging, please consider roadside parking close by, e.g. top end of St Helen’s Street, or using the parking in town.
In all cases, please park carefully and be considerate of local residents.
Registration is still planned on being at the east (Hay) end of the school car park (White Suzuki S-Cross).

Cockermouth School (tbc).
There are likely to be other users. If full then park considerately and carefully on the road back towards Cockermouth.
Registration: Aiming for registration to be at the east end of the car park:

Starts: All starts are ~1.2 km away along the public right of way (PROW) past the caravan park and Annfield Farm at NY 1365 3027, ///victory.argued.jiffy.
Competitors should take care when crossing the road or use the pedestrian crossing (especially Juniors).

Important Safety Notes: You must come and register before starting your run and you must return to registration to download even if you retire from your course.
If you travelled to the event alone, you must state this at registration or leave your car keys.
Every competitor must have with them a waterproof top, a spare torch and a whistle.

No dogs on the courses

Entries:

Online entries using Racesignup.

Courses:

The Long and Short courses go up onto Slate Fell and then return via the brand new map of Brick Kiln Woods courtesy of Toby Heppell.
The map will be double sided with a ~500 m mandatory taped route between the two parts along the PROW (distance included in the course lengths).
Long = 4.5 km
Short = 3.3 km

Easy = 2.1 km with the finish at the start location, and return to the school ~1.2 km back along the PROW.

HELP ME TO CHOOSE A COURSE

All of the area (including the final bit of the route to the start) is very wet. A period of fine dry weather ahead of the event may improve this.
However, you are likely to get very muddy. Runners on the Long and Short courses can clean off their footwear when they ford the beck shortly after the finish!

Start Times:

5.30-7pm

Courses Close:

8pm

Planner:

Other Notes:

New to Night Orienteering?
You need to bring a decent head torch (and maybe a spare and/or spare battery) and make sure to dress appropriately for the weather.
The first series of events, up to Christmas tend to be on easier areas so are suitable for those trying night orienteering for the first time.
Younger and/or inexperienced orienteers should be accompanied.
