BSOC Podium

On Sunday the 20th of November a group of WCOC juniors travelled to Graves Park in Sheffield to compete in the British Schools Orienteering Championships. We all had a great time and Cockermouth School were runners-up in the secondary school competition!

The area wasn’t too hard navigationally but was a big physical challenge as the terrain was fast. Every member of our team performed well, and we got some great results. Toby Heppell (Year 9), Daniel Heppell (Year 11), Myrtle Ashworth (Year 10) and Emma Crawford (Year 13) all won their categories and returned home with some very nice bobble hats supplied by Big Bobble Hats.

Also, Sophie Crawford (Year 10) and Daisy Rennie (Year 12) positioned 2nd and Isaac Hunter (Year 10) finished 3rd. Well done to everyone who ran on Sunday and contributed towards the Cockermouth School team coming 2nd.

A big thank you to Scott and Lindsay Ashworth for managing the team and taking us down to Sheffield.

Tuesday Night Training (TNT)

15 juniors and a handful of adults took part in TNT at Memorial Gardens on 22nd November. The session  was split into two groups, with the more experienced athletes running an interval session and the less experienced group playing a game of Snook-O in the dark.

The interval session comprised of 4 times 1200m loops with a sprint control pick at the end of each one – hard work!

Snook-O was a twenty minute score event, where the runners had to make as big a ‘break’ as possible in the time allowed. Four points were lost for every 30 seconds late back. Bea Gorrill won with a score of over 50 points!

There are four sessions left before Christmas with the basic details (venue and time) set out below:
